"damage" seems like the wrong word (probably a direct translation of Z's 损坏美好的景色).
LA's example: 「澄澈的湖面上竟漂著垃圾,真是煞風景」
In English, you would say the trash "spoiled" the scenery -- or, better, it "was an eyesore".
Diff:
- 煞風景 煞风景 [sha1 feng1 jing3] /to damage beautiful scenery/fig. to spoil the fun/
+ 煞風景 煞风景 [sha1 feng1 jing3] /to be an eyesore/(fig.) to spoil the fun/to be a wet blanket/
