<< review queue entry 37751 - submitted by 'goldyn_chyld' >> http://www.zdic.net/cd/ci/12/ZdicE9ZdicBBZdic91144.htm http://www.nciku.com/search/all/%E9%BB%91%E5%90%83%E9%BB%91 Editor: The definition of "do the dirty on" that I liked best was in Chambers: "to play a low trick on" I did enjoy OED's 1914 quote as well: "The Germans have been ‘doing the dirty’ on us by donning khaki and kilts to approach our trenches." And the following quote also helped reassure me that "do the dirty on" was not too bad for the present cedict entry: "she observed several magazines at a news shop featuring a large-print, bold-faced slogan, 'They Did the Dirty on Me,' above a photo of Al Capone looking straight at the viewer from behind prison bars." |
