<< review queue entry 53082 - submitted by 'ycandau' >> << resubmitted review queue entry 53081 - submitted by 'ycandau' >> 1. background Z (1) [dustpan]∶一种铲状器具,用以收运垃圾 (2) [fan;winnowing pan]∶扬米去糠的器具 (3) [loop of a fingerprint]∶簸箕形的指纹 K ◊ dustpan ◊ winnowing fan ◊ (of a fingerprint pattern) loop M 1. I have several problems here a) we are obviously copying some dict. So does K; too bad, I had grown some respect for them b) winnowing fan? winnowing pan? At first I thought it was a typo. Well, after consulting several dicts+wp+GI, I am utterly confused. but I am still diffident that "fan" may convey the wrong idea: dictionay.com: a kind of basket formerly used for winnowing grain a machine equipped with a fan for winnowing or cleaning grain Wiktionary: A fan used while winnowing to blow the chaff off the grain and I find "winnowing fan" here http://kaleidoscope.cultural-china.com/en/10Kaleidoscope3173.html described as what I would have expected, a completely different machine On the other hand, "winnowing pan" is alarmingly present on Chinese and Hindu sites. "winnowing basket" is unambiguous and found on British Museum site. c) as to "loop of a fingerprint"... Is that "whorl"? Anyway I'll believe it when I see it. M doesn't even mention it. |
