"stage comeback"
Maybe this was an accidental mixing of "stage a comeback" and "make a comeback".

Not necessarily anything to do with the stage (theater):
而本來以為絕跡的肺結核,也已捲土重來
And tuberculosis, a disease once thought to have been eliminated, has returned.

Do we need "return in a swirl of dust"?
If so, do we want to add lit. and fig.?
