"public welfare/good", OK, but beyond that: - does it mean "work"? - "commonwealth" was maybe intended for "commonweal", a word I would give anything to not see used. - civic-minded: I don't think this can be an adjective; I see 热心公益 - mostly, compared to what I read in news, I miss a simple word like "charitable" or smth 她献身公益事业。 "She dedicated herself to welfare activities." (N) I have a hard time picturing "welfare activities". Wouldn't that be "public causes"? 公益活动 a charity event, not "socially useful activity" (J) GT says among others "charity", "charitable activities" 公益演出 benefit performance 公益晚会 GT has "charity event", "benefit dinner"; the kind of thing you see on TV, ONE NIGHT 公益晚会. "welfare parties"? |
