<< review queue entry 53824 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> Definition seems unwieldy. "juncture"? Really? Any examples of that? "turn-around"? It doesn't have a hyphen, and "turnaround" has all these senses, according to Webster and American Heritage: 1) the time it takes someone to receive, deal with, and return something 2) the process of making something (such as an airplane) ready for use again after it has arrived at a place 3) a complete change from a bad situation to a good situation, from one way of thinking to an opposite way of thinking, etc. 4) a space, as in a driveway, permitting the turning around of a vehicle. 5) the act or an instance of turning about and facing or moving in the opposite direction Does 交接 mean any of these? Which one(s)? "change-over" suggests that "turnaround" is intended to have senses #1 and #2 listed above. But once again, there is no hyphen in "changeover", and I'd like to see an example where 交接 has this meaning. I'm guessing the following sort of situation is intended: 新舊兩任市長於今天進行交接儀式 (example from LA) For that sense, I think "to hand over to" and "to take over from" are probably sufficient. "to attach"? Any examples? The glosses that seem valid as far as I can see so far are: - /to link/to connect/ - /to hand over to/to take over from/ - /to associate with/to have friendly relations with/ - /to copulate/ (or is it a little less "scientific" than that -- say, "to have sexual relations"?) Do we need " a relay"? "to transfer"? "to join with"? "transition"? "to turn into"? What sense is intended here? "to turn into the next street"? "to turn into a monster"? Here are some TP examples: - 先在新舊任交接典禮 First, at the swearing-in ceremony, - 終至消失在海天的交接處。 where the waters met the sky. - 接近七月交接的香港 In the days leading up to the takeover, - 新舊制度交接,京師大學堂成為最高學府,但官味仍然十足。 Under the new system, Jingshi University became the nation's highest academic institution, but it still had a strongly bureaucratic feel. - 走到鹹淡交接的河口 searched the flat sandy beaches near the mouths of rivers - 南與苗栗縣交接, bordering Miaoli County to the south |
