"to drive at sb (with a car)"?

Based on the following article, it seems it can be used when a car drives at sb *without* making any contact. The article describes a man driving at people three times to try to run them over (男子开奥迪三次撞人). The verb used in each instance is 撞, but he actually hits someone on only one of the three occasions.

Here is the description of the 3rd time he "zhuang"ed people (this is one of the times nobody got hit.):
然后第三次撞向陆某所在的人群。不过这次速度不是特别快,众人均闪开。

Editor: Following the discussion, I'll process like this for now. Feel free to submit to change it.
