Chao's def (abbreviated)
(1) to touch
(2) to catch, receive, suffer, to be troubled with (& he refers the reader to the 着[zhao1] entry for examples)
(3) {resultat. compl.} hitting the mark, touching the important point
{resultat. compl.} touching, getting at, succeeding in

richwarm : Why do we have "to fall asleep" sandwiched between "to catch fire" and "to burn". In fact, why do we have "to fall asleep" at all?

ycandau: "why fall asleep?" and why burn, catch fire, etc? all the result of the same kind of thinking: 睡著 means to fall asleep, therefore 著 means to fall asleep -- short-sighted view of a language

Add sth like Chao's "{resultat. compl.} touching, getting at, succeeding in"?

猜得(or 不)着 'can(not) guess correctly'
找得(or 不)着 'can(not) find'

Editor: See RQ discussion. Also, regarding "catch fire; burn":
他先从包里拿出了固体酒精放在烧烤架上点燃,再把木炭放在上面,慢慢木炭着了起来,过了一会儿,木炭变成了白色,将它均匀的分布在烧烤架上。
