<< review queue entry 52577 >> http://www.iciba.com/%E4%BB%A5%E5%92%8C%E4%B8%BA%E8%B4%B5/ ======================================== Editor: I think it's going too far to say it means "A bad compromise is better than a good lawsuit." It's just not that specific. It's in the Analects as 禮之用,和為貴, and it still is used often enough without 以 as just 和為貴. The meaning is pretty transparent. We wouldn't want to be listing all the expressions of this form, such as 以小为贵 small is beautiful 以少為貴 one should be sparing 言以简洁为贵 brevity is the soul of wit 以妻為貴 treat one's wife with deference etc etc |
