-- I think it is. It fits with L's definition 當場;當下.

Also, I think it's good to add a gloss like "on the spot" which, like 當下, suggests that that something happened without pause, instantly. Here's an interesting example where the meaning is not "impromptu" or "improvised":

3年前,美國歌星蕾哈娜在《Umbrella》MV中,拿著一支黑色totes傘翩然起舞。她出色的嗓音加上誘人舞姿,讓這曲MV甫推出即席捲全球,也讓這把黑傘爆紅。
