If we look at a map of oriole habitats, the territory occupied by the black-naped oriole stretches across half of mainland China, all the way from the northeastern provinces down to Taiwan and across to the foothills of the Himalayas.

Hughes dominates the world V-SAT market, but in fact it only manufactures for the American market; manufacturing for the rest of the world is left to MTI.

The false cypress forests which bear the heavy responsibility of stabilizing Taiwan's fragmented earth, also form a safety valve for the Shihmen Reservoir, Tanshui River and Lanyang River on which the people of northern Taiwan depend for their drinking water. The band of cypress forest that runs from Mt. Chilan to Mt. Lala forms a huge natural reservoir that soaks up heavy rainfall and releases it in gentler flows while keeping the soil firmly in its grasp, in a way that no human engineering project could replicate.

But sadly the people of the Song, who conquered such vast spiritual dominions for the plum flower, themselves lost half their national territory.

In M's example 半壁江山 refers to the territory that has *not* fallen to invaders:
(A and K's defs say it's like this.)

In NC's example, however, 半壁江山 is the territory that *has* fallen:
Half of the country is lost to the enemy.
Diff:
+ 半壁江山 半壁江山 [ban4 bi4 jiang1 shan1] /half of the country (esp. when half the country has fallen into enemy hands)/swathe of territory/
