usually written using English "high" but occasionally written as this.

high, at least in Chinese, has two meanings -- the first being the same as English "high" as in high on drugs [嗨药] -- the second meaning extremely happy...which meaning I don't believe the English word "high" contains...I don't know if we should add something to explain or not but if

ex:

a question from baidu zhidao:

fits websters:
12 a : filled with or expressing great joy or excitement <high spirits>
b : intoxicated; also : excited or stupefied by or as if by a drug

but I really don't know how many people will get "filled with or expressing great joy or excitement" from the word high itself...
Diff:
- 嗨 嗨 [hai1] /oh alas/hey!/hi! (loanword)/
# + 嗨 嗨 [hai1] /oh alas/hey!/hi! (loanword)/high (loan)/
+ 嗨 嗨 [hai1] /oh alas/hey!/hi! (loanword)/high (on drugs, or as 'in high spirits') (loanword)/
