The believed meaning is used to describe people, usually pretty women, who still look pretty without makeup, but it really means to be confident in your true self- without lies, embellishments and makeup. 5) A good writer is like the sister of Yang Kueifei, who could go to see the Emperor himself without powder ['paud?]（粉末）and rouge [ru:?, ru:d?]（胭脂）.
