<< review queue entry 49273 - submitted by 'shenyixuan' >> propulsion noun [U] (technical 术语) the force that drives sth forward ============================================ Editor: "propulsion" is normally an uncountable noun, whereas 推動力 is normally a countable noun. You can't speak of "a propulsion" or "three propulsions" But you can say "there are three 推动力 (driving forces)" (as in 经济发展的三个推动力). "propulsion", as an uncountable noun, would be more suitable as a noun sense for 推進 and/or 推動 rather than 推動力. "propulsion" would be appropriate for 推动 here, for example: 研制人力飞机比研制依靠发动机推动的固定翼飞机更具有挑战性 As NC puts it, 推动力 is a "propulsive force", not "propulsion". |
