<< review queue entry 49183 - submitted by 'monigeria' >> I would like to add this nearer the beginning but you guys can decide...the only time I've heard it used to mean the above "/to associate/to contact/association/contact/" is by foreigners who's Chinese isn't that good.... from the TV shows I've seen [mostly Taiwanese] every time they use "交往" it's to mean "date" (dating) and from the people I've spoken to [mostly Chinese] every time they use "交往" it's to mean "date" (dating) here's a baidu zhidao talking, somewhat, about this: http://zhidao.baidu.com/link?url=y8Y5-EHj8mHW34s29PzwQrT4k64rR2wewY84N0quKNEHKESaekEtqLFecKdKDgEpgAjPR48hy9bLAw5w_kXPDK Q:交往和谈恋爱是一个意思吗? Apparently as far as I can tell '交往' - originally did not have this meaning -- as any dictionary you look up doesn't even talk about this -- but people have changed to using it for dating... some headlines too: 21小时前金宇彬认证恋爱 与女模特2年交往中 中国娱乐网 1天前前田敦子首次公开恋情 与演员尾上松也交往中 东北网 ------------------------------------------------- Editor: Sure it means "to date". That's no doubt an extension of the original meaning. But the original meaning is by no means obsolete. Maybe you should read more widely? :-) It's not hard to find 交往 used in less colloquial contexts, and even in some colloquial contexts, where it doesn't mean "to date" 我跟有钱人交往总觉得别扭。 I've always been uncomfortable around rich people. 好主意。我确信他会很高兴有机会和自己年纪相仿的人交往。 Great idea. I'm sure he'd appreciate the chance to socialize with his peers. ... 連人際交往都出現困難 and have difficulties with interpersonal relations, 另外要加強雙邊交往的層級,部長以上、以至於總統、副總統等高級官員的互訪等,就是一種實質提昇。 And we want to raise the level of contact. For instance, if presidents, vice presidents and other high officials meet, that's a way of raising de facto relations. 在台北,人與人的交往,常是匆匆忙忙、電光石火似的,「今天見了面,是朋友,明天再見到,卻不一定記得起來,」 In Taipei, relationships between people can be hurried and superficial, like an electric spark: "Today you meet and you're friends, tomorrow you meet again, and you don't always remember the other person," ... and there are lots of examples of "与公众交往" (dealing with the public) on the Web. |
