more like 'bad person'

evil-doer/malefactor is hardly as colloquial as 坏人 is
------------------------------------------------------------------
Editor: It's often used colloquially, but it's also used in more literary contexts:

Strictly speaking, such characters are also marked by flaws, corruption, and even cruelty, and thus bear affinities to villainous figures.

"Those imprisoned are evildoers."

For dramatic effect, there need to be elements of hatred or revenge, and usually one irredeemably evil character whose purpose is to create obstacles to the romantic or career success of the main character.

The anti-hero seems to occupy a middle ground between hero and villain.
Diff:
- 壞人 坏人 [huai4 ren2] /an evil-doer/a malefactor/
