Well, it would be fun to define 雕 as "sculpture; vulture" :-) but ...

Chao says "to carve", and 雕像 = a sculpture; statue
M corroborates "shrewd" ~ 狡詐的
M also has 鷲的別名。同「鵰」。 ... and "bird of prey" is presumably the meaning in the expression 雕蟲小技
