<< review queue entry 47905 - submitted by 'xiaoxiong' >> wouldn't hurt to include the original meaning of this character 【漢語大詞典】 yǐn 1. 笑貌。 楊樹達《積微居小學金石論叢・釋聽》：「《說文》二篇上《口部》云：『听，笑貌也。從口，斤聲。』按：听為笑貌，前人未有言其故者。以愚考之，蓋謂張口之狀也。何以明之……《言部》訢訓喜，《欠部》欣訓笑喜，今通語謂取樂為開心，蓋古之遺語矣。忻為心開，听文從口，當為口開，笑者口必開，故听為笑貌矣。」 張舜徽《說文解字約注》卷三：「忻從心而訓闓，即今語所稱開心也。听從口而訓笑，即莊周所云『開口而笑』耳。」參見「听然」。 2. 見「听听」。 【國語辭典】 yǐn 笑的樣子。 文選・司馬相如・上林賦：「亡是公听然而笑。」 唐・劉禹錫・說驥：「睹之周體，眙然視，听然笑，既而抃隨之。」 Editor: well, since 听 is one of the most common everyday characters, it'd be a good idea to at least indicate that it's an old use so to avoid confusion. |
