<< review queue entry 47712 - submitted by 'monigeria' >> abc moe Editor: Read moe's definition and example: 比喻懦弱不敢面對現實的人。 如:「這主意原是他想的,如今出了事,他倒像縮頭烏龜似的,不敢出面承認。」 It's something rather more specific than "a coward" (胆小鬼). ABC's definition ("a cowardly person") is lazy, and fails to nail the precise meaning. Here's another example (to add to moe's): 小學三年級宗漢休學後,像「縮頭烏龜」一樣,終日在家與電腦、書籍為伍。 After Tzung-han left school in the third grade, he was like a turtle that had retreated into its shell, spending all day at home with his computer and his books as his only friends. As a one-word definition, "ostrich" is closer to the mark than "coward": ostrich ~ "A person who refuses to face reality or accept facts" And of course, the ostrich, like the turtle, has a reputation for hiding its head from danger, although in the case of the ostrich, it's a myth. "Contrary to popular belief, ostriches do not bury their heads in sand to avoid danger." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostrich |
