Apart from the medical senses, which don't apply here (I assume), "virulent" means "bitterly hostile"

Maybe it comes from sth like jukuu's
virulent hatred 刻骨的仇恨
for which "deep-rooted" works fine, I would think.

We could probably do without "inveterate" too -- seems a little off?
