<< review queue entry 45324 - submitted by 'xiaoxiong' >> not a modal particle... Editor: The fact that it's not a modal particle doesn't imply that it's not neutral tone. The question is whether 巴 is pronounced with neutral tone in this word. 歐巴桑 is derived from the Japanese obasan (short "a", meaning 'middle-aged woman'), and pronouncing it as [ou1 ba1 sang1] would make it sound much more like obaasan (long "a" -- 'old woman'), so it would make sense to de-emphasise the 巴, and indeed that's what M says: ㄡ ˙ㄅㄚ ㄙㄤ |
