1) couldn't find this anywhere but MoE in my huge collection of both offline and online electronic dicts and paper dicts. we all know how outdated MoE is (I believe it hasn't been updated since 1996) and that it often has some bizarre variants that are no longer used even on TW, e.g. MoE uses 祕 throughout the whole dictionary instead of 秘
2) this is a common typo on the Internet
3) definition is lacking compared to 巅峰, and who's 'he'? it's the first time I see sb write 'he' in a dictionary definition

Editor: A "common typo on the Internet"? Well, it's certainly common, with Google indicating more than 7 million instances.

However, I don't think it's a typo. Between 1996 and 2012, the writers and editors of 台灣光華雜誌 saw fit to publish the word as 顛峰 in 27 different articles.

On the Chinese Wikipedia page for the Japanese anime series トップをねらえ! there are three 常用譯名 listed: 勇往直前, 飛躍巔峰, and 飛躍顛峰. If 飛躍顛峰 were a typo, that would be like releasing a movie under the titles "War and Pease" and "War and Peace"! I think it's more likely that both of the Chinese spellings are considered correct, and that it's more akin to the release of the 1994 movie "The Favor" under other names, including "The Favour".

Did you really go and look up 顛峰 in *every* single dictionary in your huge collection?! Thank you for going to so much trouble! However, incredible as it may seem, my dictionary collection might be even huger than yours! :-) ... because without even looking at all of my dictionaries, I found 顛峰 in three of them. Here are extracts from just a few of the entries I found:
acme <<名詞>> 1 頂點, 絕頂, 極點, 極致, 顛峰
crest <<名詞>> ... 4 b. 最高點; 尖峰, 顛峰
noontide <<名詞>> 1 中午, 正午 2 ...顛峰時期
peak-hour 顛峰時刻的
the futile years after her artistic peak 在她達到藝術顛峰之後一無所成的數年

Is the definition of 顛峰 "lacking compared to 巅峰"? I don't think so. At least it indicates that 顛峰 is a noun, not a phrase:
"at its peak" would be 處於它的巅峰狀態, not 巅峰.
Diff:
- 顛峰 颠峰 [dian1 feng1] /the peak (of his power)/
+ 顛峰 颠峰 [dian1 feng1] /variant of 巔峰|巅峰[dian1 feng1]/
# Editor: added ~
- 巔峰 巅峰 [dian1 feng1] /summit/at its peak, or at its most advanced state/
+ 巔峰 巅峰 [dian1 feng1] /summit/apex/pinnacle (of one's career etc)/peak (of a civilization etc)/
