Editor: The consensus among editors seems to be that it's best to understand this sense of 治死 as a construct ("to kill by medical treatment"), along the lines of 毒死 ("to kill by poisoning"), 闷死 etc. 治 is "to treat", not "to cure". (I've put in a submission to change our def of 治). The current def is an awkward way of saying "to punish by killing". |
