<< review queue entry 43276 - submitted by 'xiaoxiong' >> why is this capitalized? the other dictionaries (including ABC which is particularly anal about capitalization) don't do this nor do we, in the entry for 现代派 also, I don't think the explanation in the parentheses is necessary, but that's up to you Editor: Both modernism and futurism are sometimes spelled with a capital letter and sometimes lowercase. Both ways are seen in highly credible sources. Encyclopedia Britannica: "Marinetti coined the word Futurism to reflect his goal of discarding the art of the past and celebrating change ..." Encarta Dictionary's entry specifically endorses both spellings: "futurism or Futurism - artistic movement valuing technology's beauty" Encarta gives only lowercase for "modernism", which makes some sense, since modernism is less identifiable as a specific style, in comparison with Futurism. Don't waste our time asking for explanations about inconsequential matters. This sort of thing is actually working against the CC-CEDICT project, in my opinion. In future, I will simply delete vexatious submissions without notification, and that may include submissions that - adopt a tone of superiority, especially when the submission is based on a misconception - quibble about borderline issues in freshly processed entries - are accompanied by evidence that is contradictory or otherwise substandard |
