<< review queue entry 40866 - submitted by 'ycandau' >> "to pull" is F but not especially good or necessary ============================================ interesting how the ambiguity of Chinese widens the range of the word. transitive (active): 小松鼠拖着个尾巴 the squirrel is dragging his tail behind 小姑娘拖着一条长辫子 she was "trailing" a long pigtail; her pigtail was hanging behind intransitive (passive) 她的长裙拖地 her dress was trailing on the ground (or: was mopping the ground) 头发长得由头顶托到地下 her hair was so long it trailed down to the floor ========================================== "to mop": this sense is not on Z or M, but is in Collins and is illustrated on N's examples: 用墩布拖地板 it's a logical evolution: you drag smth on the ground to mop it. But see how the Chinese says "to drag the floor" (another ambiguity: the object is not really the object of the verb) |
