"standoff" is a single word -- it has no space, and it means ~ "A stalemate or deadlock between two equally matched opponents in a dispute or conflict" But I don't think that's the meaning of 对决, either. "standoff between two opponents" has only three Google hits and "stand off between two opponents" has 6000 hits -- but they all seem to be derived from CEDICT! J ~ when the confrontation occurred 当对决发生时 TP ~ 善惡對決 the struggle of good versus evil NC says it's a verb ~ "to fight to the finish" but I see it used as a noun ABC says it means "duel; decisive struggle" ABC also says it's an "abstruse term" -- yet it appears in several dozen TP articles, there are 33 ordinary-looking examples on jukuu, and 61 million Google hits! |
