Comment: << review queue entry 38940 - submitted by 'mmmoore' >>
example: 『春節時,紅旗人在門上貼紅掛旗,... 』

Google images can be consulted as well. I'm not certain if there is a specific English word for this item.

Editor: I was going to add a verb sense "to display a flag" ~
e.g. 为了抗议违规拆迁,家家都挂旗表示!
but that can be considered to be handled by the entries for the individual hanzi, 挂 and 旗.

I don't think we can use "kakemono". It's not a word that's used in English in this sense, except perhaps by advertising specialists.

N has sth very different -- 挂旗 [guà qí] 1. [Law] shut down
and dict.cn has an identical definition
Could it mean that in some contexts? Something figurative, perhaps?
Diff:
# 掛旗 挂旗 [gua4 qi2] /vertical banner/pole banner/
+ 掛旗 挂旗 [gua4 qi2] /vertical banner (for display at exhibitions, advertising hung from poles in the street etc)/
