Editor: Matic, I believe I know what ABC is trying to say with their definition "notice/watch ... out of the corner of one's eye" and I think it's the same as what Yves is aiming for in his submission, but I think Yves' def is much better. For one thing, 看在眼里 does not mean literally watching "out of the corner of one's eye" as ABC's wording suggests. It just means that there is a certain passivity -- one is seeing things and noting what's happening, without getting actively involved in what is happening before one's eyes an/or without making comment on it -- i.e. just "taking it all in". TP examples ~ 他們大多都看在眼裡，只是不一定會表現出來而已。 Children, though, are more sensitive than we often imagine, and can see the anxiety and hurt their father or mother is going through as Chinese New Year approaches.
