It wasn't clear to me what "join syllables in writing" meant.

"as opposed to block capitals" makes it sound like it's about writing with an alphabet and nothing to do with hanzi
N ~ 连书 [liánshū] 动 写字时笔画连续不断。

N ~ 他总是爱连书,弄得大家都看不懂。
He always likes writing in linked script, and makes us unable to read.

N ~ 连写 [liánxiě]
1. 动 写字时笔画连续不断
草书讲究连写。
2. 动 指用汉语拼音字母给普通话的复音词注音时,两个或两个以上音节连起来书写。如"ɡuójiā(国家)""jiāotōnɡxiàn(交通线)"。

My defs are mainly based on NC and the N defs quoted above
NC says "连书 = 连写"
Diff:
- 連寫 连写 [lian2 xie3] /connected handwriting/joined up writing (as opposed to block capitals)/
+ 連寫 连写 [lian2 xie3] /(in the Romanization of Chinese) to write two or more syllables together as a single word (not separated by spaces)/to write without lifting one's pen from the paper/

- 連書 连书 [lian2 shu1] /to join syllables in writing/joined-up handwriting/
+ 連書 连书 [lian2 shu1] /(in the Romanization of Chinese) to write two or more syllables together as a single word (not separated by spaces)/to write without lifting one's pen from the paper/

+ 連笔 连笔 [lian2 bi3] /to write without lifting one's pen from the paper/
