Otherwise, why say 艳丽 in the definition ~ 形容妇女妆饰打扮得十分艳丽 I think that 濃妝豔抹 is often used to describe women who have noticeably but tastefully applied their makeup, as well as those who have overdone it. Similarly, M's definition 女子刻意妝飾得華美豔麗 focuses on the meticulous efforts that go into getting that look, and how gorgeous the result is -- which doesn't match "heavily made-up" all that well. And I think that 濃妝豔抹 may refer to the application of makeup without necessarily referring to the clothing ~ 1) 那种在脸上浓妆艳抹装假睫毛打柔光的照片已经落伍 2) 就是在臉上濃妝豔抹和穿著華麗的服裝 And I don't think you could say the 槟榔西施 in the photo was "richly attired" :-) 3) 实拍浓妆艳抹的槟榔西施 |
