<< review queue entry 41737 - submitted by 'xiaoxiong' >> common in the north, see Baidu if you need examples, 漢語大詞典 also has the word the 子 suffix is often replaced in the north with 儿, like 盖子=盖儿, 小孩子=小孩儿, etc Editor: I think that, in CEDICT's terms, "erhua variant of X" refers to "applying erhua to X", rather than "removing 子 and applying erhua to the result" e.g. 尜儿 [ga2 r5] /erhua variant of 尜/ (not "erhua variant of 尜子") 胡琴儿 [hu2 qin2 r5] /erhua variant of 胡琴/ (not "erhua variant of 胡琴子") 杜鵑花瓣上的「血跡斑斑」,植物學者卻稱為「停機坪」,因為花朵借它指引蟲兒落腳採蜜。 The "bloodstained" petals of rhododendron flowers. Botanists call this speckled pattern the "landing strip," because it attracts insects to land and collect nectar. But 蟲兒 presumably doesn't have the figurative sense of a person with a particular undesirable characteristic, like 蟲, so I won't link to the entry for 蟲. |
