I feel that "vaunted" is off the mark --- "vaunted" = "highly or widely praised or boasted about" [Webster]

I also feel that there is a colloquial usage of 誇張, which is not conveyed by the current definition. This is the sense that something is "a bit extreme", which is not the same as saying that it is exaggerated, as I think the following examples show.

(coll.) excessive/extreme/ridiculous ~

Ch'pod ~
Among these, cucumbers and tomatoes experienced the largest percentage of increase.
Cucumbers went from 3.5 kuai per kilo to 5.6. Tomatoes rose from 4.2 to 6.5.
That's a lot. It's ridiculous.
[Not "It's exaggerated!" or "It's overstated!" or "It's vaunted!"
Rather, "It's ridiculous!" or "It's excessive." ]

"too much"
Hey, check out 'Ms. Red' over there!
A: 也许吧。
Perhaps. But this is just too much. When it was my zodiac birth year, I didn't buy anything.

"bad" (i.e. extreme)
Because after going to this wedding, I'll be broke for the rest of the month.
Is it really that bad? All you have to do is give a red envelope with cash inside, right?

"ridiculous"
Yeah! In the past, many people celebrated the Western Valentine's Day. Now, Qixi is also being called ``The Valentine's Day of the East."
Even more ridiculous, because there's an leap month this year, there are two Qixis. It's supposed to be the kind of double Valentine's Day
that comes just once every thirty-eight years! So sales come out one after the other.

"out of control" (i.e. excessive)
A double Valentine's Day? When you add in the Western Valentine's Day, doesn't that mean we're going to have three Valentine's Days this
year? It's out of control! This year, Valentine's Days are close to becoming a double mental and physical burden for people.
