The pronunciation of 血 varies according to a number of factors such as level of formality, region, and (probably) personal preference. CEDICT indicates this in the entry for 血, rather than in the entry of every 血 compound. CEDICT's approach is to give xuè as the pronunciation[*] in compound entries, with the understanding that this is to be overridden if specific conditions mentioned in the single-hanzi entry (namely: "informal or Taiwan usage") apply ~ 血 [xue4] /blood/informal colloquial and Taiwan pr. [xie3]/also pr.
