<< review queue entry 41525 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> Death (with a capital D) *is* death personified, so "Death personified" means "death personified personified"! Literally, 死神 means "god of death", but in practice it's usually used as a figurative device to mean simply "death". See the examples below. "death" is the definition given in New Century, for example. And, as N says, 借指死亡 ----> 神话中掌管人死亡的神;借指死亡 It's misleading to say it means Azrael, Bleach etc. It might be true on rare occasions, but it gives the wrong impression in our definition. nciku's definition is a direct copy of our existing definition (without acknowledgement, as far as I can see) ~ 死神 [sǐshén] 1. noun Death (god in charge of deaths); Grim Reaper 2. noun [Myth] Azrael (Angel of Death of Jewish and Islamic mythology) 3. noun Bleach (Japanese cartoon series by KUBO Taitō) It's by no means the only example of N copying CEDICT definitions. In this case, I think it's to N's detriment! Examples ~ 「我靜靜躺在那裡,等待死神降臨,」高銘和在1997年出版的聖母峰登頂記《九死一生》中描述那最長的一夜 "I just lay there quietly, waiting for death," wrote Gau in his 1997 book Narrow Escape 在這裡與死神拔河,幾乎註定是失敗的 The struggle against death here is pretty much doomed to failure. 歷經幾度與死神搏鬥,蘇建銘開始一連串的生命反思 After stepping back from death's threshold several times, Su began reflecting on his life. 在這些戰地採訪中,張翠容多次在砲彈和槍聲之中與死神照面 Reporting from a war zone is a risky business, and Cheung has faced death many times as bullets and artillery shells have zoomed around her. |
