翻船 is just "capsize", not "sink" (although the *context* may suggest that sinking followed).

Wp ~ Capsizing is when a boat or ship is turned on its side or overturned. The act of reversing a capsized vessel is called righting.

M's definition -- 船舟翻覆 -- does not mention sinking, and in the following example, the kayak repeatedly capsizes without sinking ~
