<< review queue entry 4529 - submitted by 'whitey' >> I got that proverb from the "Sports Chinese" TV program on CCTV9. You didn't enter the pinyin as I gave it to you. I suspect the TV program is correct in saying "ti2" not "di1" (that char has 2 pronunciations). The explanation is given as "mention the pot", not "lift the pot". If you look at ti2 in your dictionary, you'll also see that one of the meanings is "mention". Normally people complain that a pot is not boiling, i.e. they mention it. I could be wrong of course. A language history expert may need to be consulted. |
