As a noun, I think it would be "carpooling" rather than "carpool".
In English, you can say you "joined the carpool", but could you "join" a 拼车?
I think "carpool" would better correspond to 拼车一族.

By the way, you can do 拼车 with taxis, and "carpooling" is probably not really a suitable word for that -- but good enough, I guess.
