<< review queue entry 40482 - submitted by 'sidanni' >> Please see Collins dictionary or Hoepli Chinese-Italian. Editor: Collins says simply "resit", but its definitions are often abbreviated to the point of leaving out some of the meaning. See ~ http://www.nciku.com/search/zh/detail/%E8%A1%A5%E8%80%83/1301175 If you look further down that webpage, there is a longer definition ~ 对经批准未参加考试或考试不及格的学生另外进行考试 So it would seem that it is not necessarily a resit -- it can be an exam which one missed, due to illness, for example. I think the present definition covers that meaning pretty well. See the following extracts ~ "The purpose of any makeup exam is to allow students, with legitimate reasons for missing a scheduled exam, to fulfil the requirements of a course..." Also ~ "... someone always gets sick, and therefore there is always a makeup final exam." ---- http://arts.uwaterloo.ca/~jredekop/MakeupFAQ.htm |
