Our definition used to be "memory capability". Presumably, that was to distinguish 记性 from other senses of "memory", such as ~

> somebody's stock of retained knowledge and experience
> the retained impression of an event
> the act or an instance of remembering

(not to mention computer storage capacity etc)

Examples ~
撒谎须有好记性。A liar needs to have a good memory.
我记性真坏 My memory is really dreadful
我的记性靠不住,最好把什么都写下来。I can' t trust my memory. I' d better write everything down.
