<< review queue entry 39875 >> but it's not pronounced er2! it really is 儿化音, 女儿 is a totally different case! how come an editor here doesn't understand such basics! what a shame! 儿 can be dropped here and the meaning won't change. ask a native speaker or something. ALSO: the world "girl" can mean "daughter" in English or other languages, i.e. "look how big our girl has become!" Editor: Yep. Sorry. Of course 女儿 is a different case. It *is* hard understand how an editor here could make such a basic mistake. :-) Regarding the deletion of "daughter", I mulled over precisely that point (that "girl" can substitute for "daughter" in context) and I'm still open to that, but dictionaries do tend to include "daughter" e.g. New Century ~ 女孩兒 = "daughter; female child; girl" dict.revised.moe.edu.tw ~ 女孩兒 = 1) 年輕女子 2) 女兒 Both of those dictionaries have a different definition for 女孩子 NC ~ "little girl; girl" moe.edu.tw ~ 年輕女子 so they apparently don't regard 女孩兒 as simply the same as 女孩子. Please consider registering and logging in when contributing -- it makes it possible to communicate via email rather than by scanning the Change log and re-submitting, and you can also track your submissions more easily. Nothing here is set in iron, of course, and you, or other editors, may wish to explain to me why we should have a different definition from NC and MOE. See you on the submissions queue! :-) |
