"Tinning is the process of thinly coating sheets of wrought iron or steel with tin, and the resulting product is known as tinplate. It is most often used to prevent rust." Editor: I think people are speaking loosely when they use 馬口鐵 for "galvanized iron". They should say 白铁 or 镀锌铁, I believe. 馬口鐵 has a coating of tin, whereas 白铁 has a coating of zinc. (Both processes are done to prevent rusting.) We also speak loosely in English when we say "tin shed" instead of "galvanized iron shed". |
