MOE:攙扶著老人,帶領著小孩。形容民眾成群結隊而行。

『每年除夕這天,山下村裡的人們_*扶老攜幼*_逃往深山,以躲避妖怪的傷害。』

Editor: "in droves" doesn't capture the notion of supporting the weaker members of the
group, which is explicit in the Chinese.

In addition, the Chinese phrase is not necessarily used in relation to a movement of
people (though that is a common usage) ~ 她們在社區內,也循例扮演家裡的賢妻良
母角色,默默擔負著扶老攜幼的工作。

I have put this more literal sense second in the definition, since it is less common than
the sense that is specifically applicable to the movement of a large number of people.

Other examples ~
1) 扶老攜幼的民眾走向碰孔口
As young and old alike approached the tunnel

2) 金岳、碧候兩村村民扶老攜幼地一邊烤肉、一邊觀賞舞蹈表演
the communities of Chinyueh and Piyahaw, young and old alike, came out to roast
meat and enjoy the performances

3) 不論您是本國或外國人,不妨扶老攜幼前往凱達格蘭大道,聽聽這些故事……。

4) 為了不願當亡國奴,華北上千萬民眾扶老攜幼展開大逃亡
Unwilling to become vassals in a conquered state, tens of millions of people from
northern China fled, with people aiding the young and the elderly in this great exodus.
