I prefer "fig." when we contrast "lit. / fig." in an idiom entry. 2012-01-19 10:30:43 [vermillon] the first says "by the way, it's a figurative meaning", the second says "here's what it means literally, here's what it means figuratively". In the present entry,... 2012-01-19 10:36:09 [vermillon] .. we're not trying to say "literally this means weight, but you must understand it as importance". If we take 杯水车薪 however, the literal meaning is not really intended, thus the "lit. fig.". |
