Editor: It's not a matter of eurocentrism. Hay exists in China, it's not a European thing. Is there anything to indicate that 藁草 is *rice* straw? Contrary to popular belief, rice is not the only crop in China. Is it straw in fact? Some people use "hay" and "straw" indiscriminately, but they are different things. Richard's research (see discusion) seems to indicate that while 藁草 may cover more than hay, it is not straw. |
