Chinesepod vocab list for lesson "Cell Phone Connectivity
Issues" says
停机 out of credit

I asked ~
Does 停机 only mean "out of credit" as the supplementary
vocabulary list says, or does it just
mean "stop working" (e.g. because of a faulty telephone)? Nciku
says "(of a machine) To stop
working"

Jenny Zhu replied "when it's used in China, it's always a result of
out of credit"

Editor:
1) it's not "to shut off a machine"
F has this f.i:
shut off/stop a machine
you can see how wrong the English is.

2) in the context of phones, I have provided examples that it
applies to fixed phones and is not not necessarily related to
credit. In fact if I take Richard's sentence:
"My cell phone is running out of credit. 此句的意思是手機很快欠
費﹐快要停機。"
it's clear that 停機 is not "running out of credit", 欠費 is.
The phone is suspended because of out of credit.
I'm leaving it because if found with little context it might be
difficult to infer "out of credit"

any number of additional examples:
对不起!您的电话已停机。详情请垂询“1860”。
英文:Sorry!Your telephone service is suspended, for more
information,please dial“1860”.

“对不起您拨打的电话已停机”后面那段英文怎么说?
sorry, the number you dialed is out of service!
sorry the number you dialed has been suspended!

(a question)
