I processed the definition to clear away the voluminous discussion about the meaning.

Now I would like to ask
(1) Is the trad right?
花痴 has more G results than 花癡 on trad pages (nearly 4 times as many)

(2) Is it slang? Or is it better to say "colloquial"?

Editor: Regarding #1, Yves comments "although I have seen more 癡 in printed matter,
痴 is the char that has been preferred for modern use. CEdict makes 癡 a variant"
As for #2, from what I've observed, it's not as informal as slang.
Diff:
= 癡 痴 [chi1] /variant of 痴[chi1]/
- 花癡 花痴 [hua1 chi1] /starry-eyed infatuation (slang)/
+ 花痴 花痴 [hua1 chi1] /starry-eyed infatuation (colloq.)/
