<< review queue entry 36120 - submitted by 'richwarm' >> The township is 阿里山鄉 and it's spelled Alishan, rather than Ali Shan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alishan,_Chiayi I believe there is no *individual* mountain called Ali in southern Taiwan. Rather there is a mountain *range* 阿里山山脈. That too is spelled Alishan, not Ali Shan, and the township is located within the mountain range. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alishan_Range "Alishan is not a single mountain, but a range on Taiwan's spine, averaging 2,500 meters in high and with the highest peak Datashan (大塔山) reaching 2,663 meters ... Most of Alishan's accommodation is clustered around the main Alishan railway station, which is very convenient for eating and shopping" http://wikitravel.org/en/Alishan "west Taiwan" seems inaccurate -- the map shows Alishan township to be almost equidistant from the east and west coasts -- not far south of the geographical centre of the island, in fact. In any case, "west Taiwan" is a rather vague term to use with in referring to an island with Taiwan's shape and north-south orientation. |
