I asked the students if they'd ever heard the phrase before. No. I asked the student who knew it how she learned it: from a Japanese textbook that gave something like "Ste-li-o" as the Japanese, and these four hanzi as the Chinese translation. A google search confirmed it's bona fide. ---------------------------- It's ステレオ sutereo, pronounced stair-eh-oh, Japanese for stereo. 組合+音響 is literally "combination + hi-fi system" Used to be called a "(combination) radio-cassette" (before CDs) Classifier=套 tao4 (sets, collections, etc) --Richard |
