I'm not sure mentality fits most of the examples I've found.

Editor: No, I don't think "mentality" is much good either.

心目 seems hard to define idiomatically without using ambiguous words, but after looking at examples, I think that
simply "mind/view" would just about do the job. Both "view" and "mind" are quite ambiguous, but 心目 seems to be
in the overlap between the senses of "view" and "mind". I don't think "mind's eye" is so good -- it's about forming a
*visual* image, whereas 心目 is more about a way of *thinking about* sth.
Diff:
- 心目 心目 [xin1 mu4] /mentality/mental attitude/viewpoint/
+ 心目 心目 [xin1 mu4] /mind/view/
