Seeing the new entry for 多音字 made me think of 破音字, which is the term I
was taught in Taiwan, although I appreciate that it is much less commonly
used. MoE gives two meanings for 破音字 but only one for 多音字, but I don't
know whether this is just an affectation of theirs.

Editor: 破音字 is preferentially used to indicate a change in meaning; which is in fact what MoE says. Re-read it.
Diff:
# 多音字 多音字 [duo1 yin1 zi4] /character with two or more readings/
+ 破音字 破音字 [po4 yin1 zi4] /character with two or more readings/character where different readings convey different meanings/
